Pie (see what we did there!!)
At Lemon Zest it’s more about the juicy filling encased in all butter pastry, rather than the numerical sequence. Hot pie, cold pie, sweet pie, savoury pie, puff pastry pie or shortcrust pie. The pies have it!
To celebrate British Pie week, this week 6th – 12th March it’s all about creating the perfect slice in our Lemon Zest kitchens. This tasks lands on the shoulders of our Head Chef, Nick, a challenge he relishes. Aside from the satisfaction of conjuring up something tasty to add to our menu, there are also the accolades to consider. Nick will be entering his creations into the annual British Pie Awards and is very keen on beating his efforts from last year.
The awards have been running since 2009 in the – self quoted- “Rural Capital of Food”, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. This award celebrates the British pie, producers, butchers and bakers (sadly, no candlestick makers!) and is a nationwide event.
Nick is hoping to improve on his Bronze Award from 2016 for a traditional pork pie with cider jelly. This year he is showcasing a steak and ale filling, alongside a new entry of mustard chicken and leek; which is also a new addition to our Lemon Zest menus. Our precious cargo will be carefully driven to the judging venue tomorrow, 7th March with judges results being announced by the end of the week.
Good luck Nick.
